On Sunday, August 21, the Lovettsville Historical Society will host author Jim Rada, speaking on his book \u201cSecrets of Catoctin Mountain: Little-Known Stories & Hidden History of Frederick & Loudoun Counties.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Catoctin Mountain runs from northern Frederick County, Maryland, to northern Loudoun County, Virginia, crossing the Potomac River as it does. Its natural history dates back to prehistoric times. Its history during the era of man is more recent and more fascinating filled with crimes, secrets, monsters, and drama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Jim Rada\u2019s stories of Catoctin Mountain, you can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

* Hunt the snallygaster and dwayyo, legendary monsters that roam the mountain ridges.
* Train to be a WWII spy in the secret OSS camp on Catoctin Mountain.

These are the stories that history textbooks won\u2019t tell you, but they give Catoctin Mountain its character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

James Rada, Jr. writes non-fiction history and historical fiction. His books include the historical novels Canawlers, October Mourning, Between Rail and Rive<\/em>r, and The Rain Man<\/em>. His non-fiction books are Battlefield Angels: The Daughters of Charity Work as Civil War Nurses<\/em> and Looking Back: True Stories of Mountain Maryland<\/em>. Many of his books have been bestsellers in their categories on Amazon.com. Jim has received numerous awards from the Maryland-Delaware-DC Press Association, Associated Press, Maryland State Teachers Association and Community Newspapers Holdings, Inc. for his newspaper writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
