The Lovettsville Historical Society and Museum will once again be offering a fall mini-course in the field this spring, offered on sequential Monday nights, May 20th<\/sup>, 27th <\/sup>(Memorial Day), June 3rd<\/sup>, and 10th<\/sup>.  Entitled Where We Live:  The German Settlement II\u00b8 <\/em>the four-session field trip-based course will strive to better familiarize local residents with the history, artifacts, stories, and key historic sites of their neighborhood.  This year\u2014Part II of the course, offers four chronologically sequential field trips diving more deeply into local history topics of high interest, and can be taken whether or not you took The German Settlement I<\/em>, <\/em><\/strong>our introductory overview class offered in 2022 and 2023.   Conceived and co-taught by Lovettsville Historical Society Board members Rich Gillespie and Mike Zapf with help from other “in the know” locals, sessions of the class will be partly in Lovettsville, partly on the road exploring the greater Lovettsville area known as \u201cthe German Settlement\u201d. The fun is in the storytelling on location\u2014but us and by you.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The topics this year will be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u200b\u200bSession 1:  The German Settlement and the Revolutionary War<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Session 2:  The Strange Case of the ‘Assassination’of John Mobberly, 1865<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Session 3:  Lovettsville, Berlin, & the Railroad Part 2 (with Fred George)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Session 4:  Distilling in the German Settlement:  Legal and <\/em>Illegal!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The four sessions are\u00a0sold\u00a0only\u00a0as a package\u00a0as with\u00a0The German Settlement I\u00a0<\/em>class.\u00a0\u00a0To\u00a0register\u00a0for the class, go online to\u00a0www.lovettsvillehistoricalsociety.org where\u00a0you can sign up and pay online<\/a>. The cost of the class is $50.00 and will be used to help\u00a0fund\u00a0the Lovettsville Museum\u2019s upcoming\u00a0physical\u00a0expansion. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To keep the class intimate and allow for sensible caravanning, we limit the class to 25 people who will meet starting Monday night May 20th<\/sup> at 6:30. p.m. in the parking lot between the Lovettsville Town Office and the white clapboard Lovettsville Museum on Pennsylvania Avenue.  Many start with a good rock in the chairs on the Town Office porch!   Please consider joining us, delve into our local history, and meet some new friends!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
