gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436073\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436074\"><b id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436075\">Presented by\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436077\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436078\"><b id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436079\">Chris Haugh, Frederick County Historian,<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436080\" style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436083\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436084\"><b id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436085\">Sunday, <\/b><\/span><\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436086\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436087\"><b id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436088\">April 8<\/b><\/span><\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436089\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436090\"><b id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436091\">, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436092\" align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436094\" align=\"left\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436096\" align=\"left\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436097\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436098\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436099\">Chris Haugh, Frederick County historian and <\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436100\">the <\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436101\">Historic Preservation Manager of Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Maryland, will explore the legend of Barbara Fritchie, <\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436102\">in the Lovettsville Historical Society\u2019s April lecture.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436103\" align=\"left\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436105\" align=\"left\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436106\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436107\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436108\">Barbara Fritchie <\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436109\">was immortalized in John Greenleaf <\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436110\">Whittier\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.poetryfoundation.org\/poems\/45483\/barbara-frietchie\">poem<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436111\">of the same name as the gray-headed woman who defiantly waved the U<\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436112\">nited <\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436113\">S<\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436114\">tates<\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436115\"> flag from her window, as Confederate troops under the command of S<\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436116\">tonewall Jackson <\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436117\">marched through Frederick on August 10, 1862, on the road today known as West Patrick Street.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436118\" align=\"left\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436120\" align=\"left\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436121\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436122\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436123\">Whittier\u2019s poem put Frederick on the map, and became a patriotic rallying cry for the Union cause. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436124\" align=\"left\"><\/div>\n<div align=\"left\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436126\" align=\"left\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436127\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436128\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436129\">But did Barbara Fritchie <em><strong>really<\/strong><\/em> wave that flag that day? Or was it a neighbor down the street, named Mary Quantr<\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436130\">i<\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436131\">ll?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436132\" align=\"left\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436134\" align=\"left\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436135\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436136\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436137\">Chris Haugh<\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436138\"> researched this question for years, including examining the Whittier papers at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436139\" align=\"left\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436145\" align=\"left\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436146\" style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436147\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1521562720052_1436148\">Come to St. James Church in Lovettsville on April 8, 2018 and hear Haugh describe what he found, and explain why he is convinced that Mary Quantrill was the real heroine of Frederick on that summer day in 1862.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div align=\"left\"><\/div>\n<div
