{"id":3820,"date":"2020-04-30T16:08:02","date_gmt":"2020-04-30T16:08:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lovettsvillehistoricalsociety.org\/?p=3820"},"modified":"2020-04-30T16:20:14","modified_gmt":"2020-04-30T16:20:14","slug":"loudoun-county-heritage-commission-opposes-demolition-of-lovettsville-community-center-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lovettsvillehistoricalsociety.org\/index.php\/loudoun-county-heritage-commission-opposes-demolition-of-lovettsville-community-center-building\/","title":{"rendered":"Loudoun County Heritage Commission opposes demolition of Lovettsville Community Center building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lovettsvillehistoricalsociety.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Loudoun-County-logo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3823\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lovettsvillehistoricalsociety.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Loudoun-County-logo.jpg\" alt=\"Loudoun County logo\" width=\"282\" height=\"178\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>T<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">he Loudoun County Heritage Commission sent a letter to the Board of Supervisors on March 31 supporting the Lovettsville Historical Society and the Lovettsville Alumni Association in their efforts to save the historic sections of the Lovettsville Community Center building, and stating unequivocally that <b>\u201cwe oppose demolition of the historic community center.\u201d <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">The Historical Society and the Alumni Association propose either building the new Community Center across the street on the Community Park site, while preserving the old building for community use, or renovating the old building as was the original plan while preserving the old classrooms which date to the 1927-1940 period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">The Heritage Commission is responsible for advising the Board of Supervisors on history and preservation issues, and has a special responsibility for making recommendations regarding county-owned historic properties. The Commission\u2019s letter expresses its concern that the County violated its own policies when it decided in 2014 to demolition the Community Center building, by disregarding the County\u2019s Historic Preservation Plan, which is part of the County\u2019s Comprehensive Plan.
