We have just published our monthly newsletter for May 2020. Even though we are forced to close the Museum, and postpone all lectures until it is safe to meet again,\u00a0 there is still lots to do.<\/p>\n
This issue continues our survey of online resources that you can try at home.\u00a0\u00a0 Many libraries and history organizations have gone to great effort during this public health emergency, to present\u00a0virtual lectures and other events, and to post many more videos on their websites.\u00a0 We provide links to a number of these.<\/p>\n
And, since our April 19 lecture on “Loudoun County: Federalist Stronghold in Virginia,” by Nancy Spannaus, had to be postponed, Nancy agreed to write an article on the subject, which we publish below as our “History Feature.”<\/p>\n
Also in this issue are updates on the fight to stop the demolition of the Lovettsville Community Center building with the historic classrooms inside which many long-time Lovettsville residents used while attending elementary and high school.\u00a0 Including in the issue are the letter from the Loudoun County Heritage Commission to the Board of Supervisors asking them to preserve this historic building, and supporting our proposal to build the new Community Center on part of the Community Park property across the street.\u00a0 We also have published the letters to the Board from the Lovettsville Historical Society and the Lovettsville Alumni Association.<\/p>\n
