autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Presented by Tim Rowland,<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em> Sunday, August 14, 2016 at 2:00 pm,<\/em><br \/>\n<em> St. James UCC Church, Lovettsville, Virginia.<\/em><\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>New York Times bestselling author Tim Rowland discussed\u00a0<em>Prelude to the Revolution:\u00a0The French and Indian War on the Maryland-Virginia Frontier<\/em>,\u00a0as part of the Lovettsville Historical Society Lecture Series in 2016.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Rowland described\u00a0how this conflict, twenty years before the American Revolution, made our struggle for independence inevitable.<\/p>\n<p>Terror on American shores is not new, Rowland pointed\u00a0out.\u00a0A decade before the Boston Massacre, colonial farmers on the frontier lived in perpetual fear, knowing that at any time Native Americans might swoop down on their farms and families.\u00a0\u00a0The Indian motivations, however, might be easier to understand; they had allied themselves with the French who had promised the Indians to stop increasing encroachment and outright theft of their historic lands.<\/p>\n<p>Although the settlers couldn\u2019t have known it then, it was this war \u2013 known to us today as the French and Indian War, and in Europe as part of the Seven Years\u2019 War \u2013 that made the fight for independence both possible and inevitable.\u00a0This was in large part because the interests of the farming classes for more land, became aligned with the land speculators and merchants who wanted free access to the Ohio territories, as against the British who wanted to contain the American colonies on the Eastern seaboard.<\/p>\n<p>All along the foothills of the Appalachians, through New York, Pennsylvania.\u00a0Maryland, Virginia and the Carolinas, an unheralded set of Founding Fathers were at work, who were every bit as crucial to Independence as the philosophers of Philadelphia and Boston.\u00a0It was these settlers \u2014 sometimes known as our Founding Fathers from the Dark Side \u2014 made the American Revolution possible.<\/p>\n<p>Their story includes the first armed uprising against British regulars;
