St. James United Church of Christ,

Women filled many vital roles during the American Revolution, providing both ordinary and extraordinary contributions to the struggle for independence.

Loudoun County public historian Tracy Gillespie will discuss how women were central to the war effort both at home, and even on the battlefield. From boycotts of British goods, to managing farms and businesses while the men were away from home, to raising funds for the army, participating in combat, and more, women stepped up and stepped in to help win the American Revolution.
Tracy Gillespie has lived in Loudoun County since the age of one and worked for nearly 40 years in the museum and public history field in the county. She is co-founder of the Loudoun VA250 Committee and continues to work part-time and volunteer with local history organizations. She proved to herself while researching for this presentation, that she still has a lot of history to learn!
Admission is free, but donations are welcome to defray expenses of the program and to support the activities of the Lovettsville Historical Society.
