An autograph book from the Civil War era, identified as belonging to Kate Souder of Loudoun County, has been acquired on behalf of the Lovettsville Museum, and will be viewed on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m at the Museum, by her great-grandson, William A. George, Jr.
“Kate” Souder was Mary Catherine Souder (1844-1915) of Lovettsville, who married Mark M.G. Rodeffer in July 1865, at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, where both remained members for the rest of their lives.
According to its description, the autograph book was signed by about 30 friends, with one signature as late as 1896. The autograph book was put up for sale on e-Bay by a collector in California. Mr. George purchased the book and is generously donating it to the Lovettsville Historical Society for display at the Museum.
