Summer Seminar on the American Revolution and its 250th Anniversary

Sunday, July 142024, at 2:00 p.m.

St. James United Church of Christ,
10 East Broad Way, Lovettsville VA

The Lovettsville Historical Society will again be offering a summer seminar program this year, to be held on Sunday, July 14th.  For this summer, our board chose to zero in on the American Revolution, and theapproaching 250th anniversary of the Revolution and our Declaration of Independence.

As with our previous 2023 seminar, we’ll use a moderator, a panel, and our audience to tackle the program before us.

We’ll face two questions this year:

• First, what is the latest thinking of what brought us to the outbreak of the American Revolution? Our panel will have a go on this, then open it up to our audience.  Some of you have been reading up on this, some are just curious as to what others are thinking.  This will be followed by a break for sustenance and libations.

• Then our second question: Given that a half-century ago, the Bicentennial of the American Revolution gave us many gifts, such as the creation of the Lovettsville Historical Society back in 1776, how should we commemorate the Quincentennial of the American Revolution and our Independence–our Virginia 250th–this time around? What kind of legacy should we leave this time?

Our seminar programs are three hours long including a break in the middle, and it makes for a very engaging Sunday afternoon.

Please put this on your calendar!

The seminar will be held at St. James United Church of Christ, 10 East Broad Way, in Lovettsville.

The program will not be live-streamed, but a video recording of the event will be posted on the Lovettsville Historical Society website.

Admission is free, but donations and are welcome to defray expenses of the program and to support the activities of the Lovettsville Historical Society.
