A special program presented by Stephen P. Wilson, Executive Director of the St. John’s Church Foundation, Richmond

Sunday, December 15at 2:00 p.m.

St. James United Church of Christ,
10 East Broad Way, Lovettsville VA

Stephen P. Wilson, Executive Director of the St. John’s Church Foundation in Richmond, Virginia, will present a special program on Patrick Henry’s immortal “Give me liberty or give me death!” speech, which took place on March 23, 1775, at St. John’s Church.

Henry’s speech was delivered during the Second Virginia Convention, just 27 days before the first shots were fired at Lexington and Concord, commencing the Revolutionary War.

Wilson’s talk will focus on the historic events that led to Patrick Henry’s speech, and will include a dramatic performance of the nine-minute speech. He will also report on plans to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the speech next March. And he will discuss the 120 delegates who attended the Second Virginia Convention at St. John’s Church, including the two delegates who represented Loudoun County.

The mission of the St. John’s Church Foundation is stated as follows:

Our mission is to spark a global appreciation for understanding the role that Patrick Henry’s “Liberty or Death” speech had in setting America on its path to liberty for all, and to ignite the public’s commitment for preserving the historic site where it happened.

The program will not be live-streamed, but a video recording of the event will be posted on the Lovettsville Historical Society website.

Admission is free, but donations are welcome to defray expenses of the program and to support the activities of the Lovettsville Historical Society.
