ANSWER to the “What the Heck IS This Thing #8?” Game:

This is a vintage strainer and pestle set, also sometimes called a “ricer.”

This is the perfect tool for mashing, sieving and straining soft foods, sauces, purees, and soups.  With the wooden pestle, you can effortlessly press and crush ingredients and mixtures through the bottom of the strainer, allowing you to release the oils and flavors for tastier soups, sauces, and other dishes, and remove seeds, pulp, skin, or other solids from gravies, sauces, or purees.
